Judah is a former paramedic, current clinical research associate, and future medical student passionate about careful and kind care that meets the demands of patients rather than the system. After spending 6+ years in prehospital medicine, Judah completed a B.S. at the University of South Florida, co-founded a student-staffed rescue unit, and began their foray into clinical research and quality improvement at the local VA. Their first career as a paramedic exposed them to the lack of humanism embodied by our healthcare system. Patients are left to use acute care services such as urgent cares, ERs, and ambulances for chronic conditions. This causes a fragmentation in the continuum of care, with the result being a further distancing of patients from careful and kind care. In order to right this ship, we need definitions of quality which are relevant to clinicians and patients far more than administrators and payers.
