Mark Linzer

Mark Linzer, MD, is a physician, teacher, and researcher with 20 years of scholarship, leadership, and research in burnout prevention in practicing clinicians, residents, staff, and students, and providing support to organizations eager to reduce burnout and improve wellness. Dr. Linzer has had faculty positions at Albert Einstein, Duke, Tufts, and the University of Wisconsin prior to coming to Hennepin County Medical Center in 2009. He was Division Director of General Internal Medicine until 2017 when he transitioned into his current role as a Vice-Chief of the Department of Medicine at Hennepin Healthcare. He is also the Director of the Office of Professional Worklife, and Director of the Center for Patient and Provider Experience at Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute. Dr. Linzer’s extensive body of work focuses primarily on understanding how the quality of the work environment affects medical providers and patients. A large portion of his research has been devoted to understanding the mechanisms of physician burnout and the means to predict and prevent it. Dr. Linzer received his medical degree from John Hopkins School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine in the Social Medicine Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y
