Michael R. Gionfriddo

Michael Gionfriddo, PhD received his PharmD from Wilkes University, then went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to complete his PhD in Biomedical Science with a concentration in Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Gionfriddo worked in the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit under Dr. Victor Montori. In the KER Unit, Dr. Gionfriddo worked on a variety of projects advancing evidence-based medicine, shared decision-making, and minimally disruptive medicine. Dr. Gionfriddo is an expert in evidence synthesis and shared decision-making, and his current work utilizes mixed methods to evaluate and improve the medication use process. Dr. Gionfriddo has presented nationally and internationally, published several book chapters, and his work has influenced guidelines, been published in high-impact journals such as the BMJ, and has been cited over 5,000 times (Google Scholar, h-index 32). Currently, Dr. Gionfriddo is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Administration at the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy where he promotes careful and kind care, routinely works with students, and teaches a variety of subjects, including literature evaluation, Pharmacoeconomics, and the responsible conduct of research. Dr. Gionfriddo is also co-PI of a grant funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to improve rigor in research through creating educational modules related to evidence synthesis.
