Ron Turker started in the ’80s as a standup comic and medical student. Through a series of nonlinear events, he became a pediatric surgeon by day and an unrelenting writer by night. Thirty years of caring for kids worldwide shaped, sharpened, and ground his sensibilities into a relentless and witty voice for change and equity in U.S. healthcare.
Once he’d found the like-minded souls of The Patient Revolution, he was all in.
Turker asks: “What do you do if you’re a surgeon who wants to write a cautionary book about healthcare but you’re not brilliant like Makary, Montori, or Gawande? It’s probably best to skip the nonfiction section, head back to your comedy roots, and pen a laugh-out-loud novel: another “House of God.” Maybe.
“The Wandering Jew of St. Salacious” is a satirical look at healthcare’s, let’s say, unhealthier side—Turker’s love letter to his career in Medicine, written with a very sharp pen.
